Classrooms and Tennis Courts:Perfect Together
When Mike Klimchak entered The College of New Jersey four short years ago, he wanted to play collegiate tennis and become a teacher. Now as he eyes graduation this spring, Mike has reached his goals with a few extras.
Upon graduation from Arthur L. Johnson High School, Mike set the school record for most career wins(88) and attained All-State honors for his performances on the court. Off the court he was named to the National Honor Society and also the Spanish Honor Society.
Mike didn't skip a beat during his freshman year at TCNJ. He recorded a record of 22-3 and was earned himself the Coach's Award.
His sophomore year saw he and doubles partner Roger Mosteller go undefeated while receiving the number two seed at the ITA Northeast Regional Tournament.
Moving into his junior year, Mike moved into the number 1 slot and ended with a 16-4 record, a 37 national ranking and a berth in the 2007 NCAA D3 Doubles Championship.
Off the court, ESPN The Magazine nominated Mike for All-District Second Team, while he was awarded his third TCNJ Scholar-Athlete award with a nearly 3.5 GPA.
Looking forward to this last season for the Lions, Mike enters the spring season with membership in the100 Win Club and an eye on the closing out his college career .
Mike is an elementary education major with a concentration in math. He is a Dean's List student, Scholar Athlete, and a two time winner of the Coach's Award.
Mike is looking forward to starting a career as an elementary school teacher in the fall and working with children as he has done while directing the Clark Youth Tennis Program.
Mike's many abilities are quite apparent, and we're looking forward to adding more his accomplishments here as the season goes on.
